Individuals wanting to be certified as a CNA/CMT/Insulin Instructor/Examiner must be approved by the Department of Health and Senior Services to attend the train-the-trainer course. This training course is conducted by a Long-Term Care Association.

The applicant must meet the following qualifications to become a CNA/CMT/Insulin Instructor and/or Examiner:

· A Registered Nurse (RN) licensed in Missouri or in possession of a temporary permit from the Missouri State Board of Nursing or shall hold a multi-state or single state RN license from a jurisdiction that is a party to the Nurse Licensure Compact.

· The licensee shall not be subject to current disciplinary action, such as censure, probation, suspension, or revocation; and

· A minimum of two (2) years of nursing experience as an RN and at least one (1) year experience in the provision of LTC facility services within the last ten (10) years

· An instructor shall not be listed on the department’s EDL.

· An individual that has been previously disqualified as an instructor shall not function as an instructor unless he or she receives written approval from the department.

The applicant must provide documentation showing these requirements are fulfilled by submitting the following to cnaregistry@health.mo.gov:

· Resume

· Copy of Nursing License

· Copy of Social Security Card (write out number if not legible after copied)

· Address and Email Address

· Phone Number (if available)

The Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) will evaluate and verify the applicant’s credentials. The DHSS will notify the applicant in writing within seven (7) to ten (10) working days regarding the request.

To qualify for the Clinical Supervisor portion of the course the applicant must meet the following qualifications:

· Currently licensed as an RN or LPN in Missouri or hold a current temporary permit from the Missouri Board of Nursing or shall hold a multi-state or single state RN or LPN license from a jurisdiction that is a party to the Nurse Licensure Compact.

· The licensee shall not be subject of current disciplinary action such as censure, probation, suspension, or revocation.

· Shall not be listed on the department’s EDL.

· Not have been previously disqualified as a clinical supervisor unless he or she receives written approval from the department.

· If not currently employed by an ICF, SNF, hospital, or Missouri Veterans’ Home, shall have at least one (1) year of licensed nursing experience.

· Shall be currently employed by the approved training agency facility where the students are performing their duties or by the training agency conducting the program.

Once approved by DHSS, the applicant must attend the state-approved instructor train-the-trainer course. When the applicant has successfully completed the course, completion paperwork is submitted to DHSS and their name will be added to the Department’s CNA Instructor Registry.
